Opening question
Have you ever obeyed a good instruction before you understood why it mattered?
Tell the story
Read Matthew 1:18-25 together. Joseph discovered that Mary was expecting a baby, and he knew the baby was not his. Although he was hurt and confused, he planned to end the engagement secretly rather than shame her. An angel told him in a dream that the child was from the Holy Spirit and must be named Jesus, and Joseph obeyed God. Jesus is also called Immanuel, which means God with us.

Opening question
What makes doing the right thing difficult when you feel hurt, confused, or embarrassed?
Tell the story
Read Matthew 1:18-25 together. When Joseph learned that Mary was pregnant, he faced a painful situation he did not understand. He chose a private response instead of publicly shaming her, showing mercy even while he was hurt. In a dream, an angel explained that the child was from the Holy Spirit and told Joseph to marry Mary and name her son Jesus. Joseph obeyed, trusting that Jesus would save his people and would be Immanuel, God with us.
