Dothan

The grazing town in the rolling hills of northern Samaria, about twenty kilometers north of Shechem on the trade route that funneled caravans from Gilead down to Egypt. Joseph finds his brothers' flocks at Dothan and they throw him into a dry cistern there before selling him to a passing Ishmaelite caravan bound for Egypt (Genesis 37). Two centuries later Elisha is at Dothan when the Aramean army surrounds the town overnight and his servant sees the hills filled with chariots of fire (2 Kings 6).
