About Road from Jerusalem to Emmaus

The country road that runs about seven miles (Luke 24:13) west of Jerusalem through the terraced olive groves and limestone hills of Judea down to the village of Emmaus. On the afternoon of Resurrection Sunday two disciples are walking this road when Jesus joins them — they do not recognize him as he opens the scriptures to them all the way down. The exact site of Emmaus is debated; candidates include el-Qubeibeh and the larger village of Amwas.
