Village of Emmaus

The Judean village seven miles west of Jerusalem named in Luke 24 as the destination of Cleopas and his companion on the day of the resurrection. They press the stranger who has walked with them to stay for supper; in a simple one-room limestone village house at the table, he takes the bread, blesses it, breaks it — and in that moment they recognize him.
