About Mount Ararat
The peaks named in Genesis 8:4 where the ark of Noah comes to rest as the floodwaters recede. The biblical phrase is "the mountains of Ararat" — a range rather than a single peak — corresponding to the highlands of ancient Urartu in eastern Anatolia, between the headwaters of the Tigris and the Euphrates and the southern shores of the Black and Caspian Seas.
Tradition has long fixed on the snow-capped twin peaks of modern Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı) on the Turkish-Armenian-Iranian frontier as the resting place of the ark. The mountain stands over five thousand meters above an otherwise flat plain, visible for a hundred kilometers, and remains one of the most iconic geographic anchors in the Bible.
