Stoning Ground

The open ground outside the city walls of Jerusalem where capital sentences of stoning were carried out, in keeping with the Mosaic requirement that the condemned be taken "outside the camp" (Leviticus 24:14). Stephen is dragged here from the Sanhedrin chamber and stoned for blasphemy in Acts 7 — the witnesses laying their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.
