About Wilderness of Midian
The arid steppe and basalt highlands east of the Gulf of Aqaba in what is today northwestern Saudi Arabia, the territory of the Midianite tribes descended from Abraham and Keturah. Moses flees there after killing the Egyptian, marries Zipporah daughter of the Midianite priest Jethro, and tends his father-in-law's flocks for forty years before the encounter at the burning bush sends him back to Egypt (Exodus 2-4).
