About this story

It''s Sunday evening. Two of Jesus'' disciples are walking the seven miles from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus. They are heartbroken — they had hoped he was the one to redeem Israel, and now he is dead. A stranger joins them on the road and asks what they are discussing. They tell him everything. He walks with them and, starting with Moses and the prophets, explains how all the Scriptures point to a suffering and risen Messiah. They reach the village. They beg the stranger to stay for supper. He takes the bread, blesses it, breaks it — and in that moment they recognize him. It is Jesus. Then he vanishes. They run all the way back to Jerusalem in the dark, hearts on fire. This comic is a quiet, beautiful Easter story about how Jesus shows up when we don''t expect him.
