About this story
God tells Jonah to go east, to the cruel city of Nineveh, and warn it to repent. Jonah goes west instead — as far west as a boat will take him. A storm comes. The sailors throw him overboard. A great fish swallows him. For three days and three nights, in the dark of the sea, Jonah prays. When the fish spits him out on dry land, Jonah finally goes to Nineveh. He preaches one short sentence — and the whole city repents, from the king to the cattle. God forgives them, and Jonah is furious. The book ends with God asking a question and never quite getting an answer: "Should I not have compassion on Nineveh?" This comic shows kids that God''s mercy is bigger than our preferences.
